 Today's Question

A patient on Aspirin will have an increase in which of the following parameters?

a)Bleeding Time
b)aPTT
C)PT
D)Clotting Time

Answer :
 Bleeding Time

  • Bleeding time evaluation is used to measure the primary phase of hemostasis, which involves platelet adherence to injured capillaries and then platelet activation and aggregation.

  • The bleeding time can be abnormal when the platelet count is low or the platelets are dysfunctional.

  • Where as Clotting Time depending on the factors  on coagulation cascade with the clotting factors.

  • Clotting Time Does not depend on platelet Count alone

  • Clotting Time increases in defiency of clotting factors

  • Partial thromboplastin time (PTT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) are used to test for the same functions

  • Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time) is a medical test of blood coagulation used to investigate the clotting factors of the intrinsic pathway

  • The aPTT is considered a more sensitive version of the PTT and is used to monitor the patient’s response to heparin therapy.where as Warfarin use PTT

  • Both of them can be further explained as measure of extrensic and intrensic pathway.

So by action on Platelets of Aspirin Bleeding Time is the answer.
